Flamingo Flocking in Argyll, Scotland

Flamingo Flocking in Argyll, Scotland

A group of staff and senior students from Campbeltown Grammar School in Argyll are organising an excursion to Gambia in February 2014.  They are working very closely with Argyll based charity Firstaid4Gambia to ensure the smooth running of this trip.  The students are going to work in a community run school in Kalagi where they will paint the walls and lay a floor in the school dining room.  They will teach the children basic hand washing, tooth brushing and first aid and will organise a proper school sports day.

To ensure the trip is a true success and can go ahead properly, the group need to raise as much money as possible and have begun with quite an unusual fundraiser, with which we have been able to help.

This first fundraiser seems to be going down a storm in Campbeltown and the surrounding areas and involves an entire flock of our Pink Flamingo Ornaments.

Basically, the group of staff and students flock gardens with our Flamingo Ornaments and then the flocked parties then pay a fee of £20 to have the offending birds removed.  Locals can purchase anti-flocking insurance if they don’t want to be flocked or if they want revenge against a friend or business acquaintance the group will carry out a “contract flocking”.

Muneroy Tearooms in Southend near the Mull of Kintyre was flocked last weekend and within a few hours pink flamingo meringues were on the menu alongside the other delicious homemade cakes.  The birds have also targeted Machrihanish Holiday Park and the world famous Machrihanish Golf Club.

The flamingos have been invited to make a guest appearance at the award winning Mull of Kintyre 10k and half marathon on Sunday 26th May.  This renowned race has won “Best UK Run” for the last 3 consecutive years in Runner’s World Magazine. So is sure to be a great opportunity for the School to raise loads more money.

The group received an email this morning from a lady who was flocked yesterday, entitled “Words are Not Enough”.

Well I have no idea how it happened – and I cannot believe I heard no one coming or going!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but you should have seen me this morning when I whisked open my bedroom curtain and the first thing I saw was my very own flock!
I laughed out loud – and one doesn’t do that very often when one lives on one’s own I can tell you!
I went straight out in my dressing gown and smiled and chuckled and took photos!
I was so touched and so pleased and it was such great fun. THANK YOU!
Thrilled. Even more fun to be on the receiving end than I thought.

We’re really glad that our Flamingo Ornaments have been able to bring such joy and fun, especially in a way we really couldn’t have expected. We wish Campbeltown School all the best in their fundraising efforts and will continue to support them to the end.
